It Was Not Your Fault But Mine…

29 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

I never thought I’d love a group that used a banjo so much in their music. Turns out I ended up liking a couple this past year. One of them from a band you may or may not have heard on your local radio station. One of their songs got pretty popular for a while there. Another candidate for my top 20 albums for obvious reasons. Mainly cause their album rocked, duh. Funny story, I’d been listening to their album for some time when I heard a song of theirs on the radio. Thing is, I’d never heard that song before and when I found out it was by this band, I was like…”WTF? Did they come out with a new album already?” Nope, turns out somehow that track got deleted out of my iTunes and the entire time I’d been skipping over it. So suffice to say, I fell in love with this band all over again. So I ‘m gonna hit you up with my favorite track before I heard the one that got airplay as well as that one, since it soon became my favorite track. The band is, “Mumford & Sons” and the tracks are as follows. Check it!

What The Hell Am I Doing Here…

28 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Here’s something I thought was pretty awesome. No it’s nothing original, nothing new, literally just a cover. But a great one at that. The group is called, “Scala & Kolacny Brothers“, which is basically just a choir who sings popular songs. And it’s AWESOME! Now you def have to be in the right mood for it. Now let’s been honest, you’ve been stuck at some choir concert deal and had to listen to a bunch of horrible old songs that you’d never heard of before. What you really wanted to hear was exactly what this group sings. So here’s my favorite, “Creep” by Radiohead. Enjoy…..oh and just for you Metallica heads, here ya go. Check it.

I Didn’t Know…

27 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Ahhh, rushed, but I wanna get a post in for the day. Alright short and sweet. A band I randomly found one day that hasn’t put any music out since 08′, but it’s really good. Here’s to hoping something new comes out soon! The band is, “Blind Pilot“, and they’re pretty laid back soft rockish acoustic sound to it. Let’s be honest, you don’t hear too many tracks with a good horn section in it, or at least not with this style of music. I think it takes this song to the next level, crazy huh? Trumpets. Well here’s the track, “Ovidedo”. FYI the rest of their album, “3 Rounds And A Sound” is bomb. Check it.

Let Me Say…

24 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Since I need to feature all the bands that I’ll have in the running for my top albums of the year I obviously got to give you this one. Easily one of the most unique bands/albums of the year. Sometimes unique is bad and sometimes it’s awesome in the case it’s SUPER AWESOME! Now this was a consistent “go to” for a lot of music blogs a while back; I know cause that’s where I found out about them. So although I’m late to the party, they’re still as good as ever. Like I said before, few female vocal groups catch my attention, but this one blows away all preconceptions I’ve ever formed.

The band consists of two peeps, a chick and a dude. Basically the guy provides the music and the girl provides the vocals. When they mesh the two together they get what is awesomely known as, Sleigh Bells. Now these aren’t your typical ching-a-ling, reindeer, christmas present, dashing through the snow, mistletoe, ho ho ho, kinda Sleigh Bells. This is the smash your face, blow your eardrums, rock you socks off, get down with your bad self, head bangin’, fist pumping not Jersey Shore style, rock duo. I could say a ton of amazing things about this band, but I think their music EASILY speaks for itself. Please, I repeat, PLEASE, do yourself the huge favor of finding the rest of their music in whatever means you find possible. You won’t regret it. I’ma be nice and give you two tracks, you deserve it buddy! First will be, “Crown On The Ground”, because it’s the track the stole my heart off their EPish compilation of songs. The second is, “Tell Em'”, off their new album “Treats“, cause it’s the track that crushed it (in a blew my mind and now I can’t see straight sorta way). Check it.

Tell Me Your Favorite Things…

23 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Alright, lets speed it back up today and hit you with a bit of that alternative funky fun rock style junk. Now I’ll start off giving props to a certain somebody (they know who they are) for introducing this band to me, although I never have officially said thanks. So, THANKSSooooo, I’m pretty darn sure this is gonna be one of my top albums this year as well. By the way, that reminds me….I’ll be featuring and reviewing my top 20 albums starting in December so be on the look out for that. For now though I’ll likely try to introduce a song or two from the potential candidates leading up to that point. I’ve already featured a couple other bands in the running so here’s another.

The band is, “Two Door Cinema Club” and the song is….uhhh dang this is another SUPER hard choice. I hate picking just one song cause I love so many off this latest album. I mean there’s the track, “Cigarette In A Theatre” that totally gets my blood flowing and in that dancey mood. Then there’s the track, “Do You Want It All“, which lyrically connects with me the most. There’s, “I Can Talk“, who’s intro is super dope. Hmmmm, I know what I’ll do (no not feature them all, sadly), but what I will do is feature one of those songs, plus an awesome song by Hoodie Allen that throws down some sick verses on top of Two Door Cinema’s track, “Undercover Martyn ” on his new album ” Pep Rally” (if you’re diggin Hoodie Allen check out my other post featuring him, https://myuniversallanguage.wordpress.com/2010/09/04/) . So it’s kinda like I’m giving you two Two Door Cinema Club tracks, sorta. I guess I’ll keep with the up beat mood I’m in and give you that dancey track. I do SUPER STRONGLY advice you go cop their album, “Tourist History“, or atleast go check out the rest of these songs and get a better idea of what this band brings to the table. Hottness. Check it.

Oh, Take It All Away…

22 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Well I haven’t posted a folk song yet, but it is one of the genres of music I’ve gotten into a lot more as of late. One of my favorite artists in the genre is a guy by the name of William Fitzsimmons. I actually found his music from a really good documentary called William Fitzsimmons: Finding Home, which follows his making of music and the life struggles he’s endured. All of which have influenced him and his music so strongly.

Basically, sometimes you just need some chill music that really has a lot of feeling and meaning to it. This hits that spot perfectly.  His music can be a bit depressing in a way, but there is definitely a time and a place for that. There are a lot of beautiful songs he does, but the one I’ve chose is the song “I Don’t Feel It Anymore (Song Of The Sparrow)”. And as per the usual, he does a pretty awesome cover of the song “Heartless” by Kanye. Check it.

I’m A F’n Redneck…

21 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

I’ve only got about half way through this album and that’s probably cause I continue to repeat this song. I’ve been waiting for something new from Ben Folds for a while now and finally he’s delivered. I haven’t listened enough to actually decide whether it’s up to Ben Folds standards or not, but I’ve listened enough to know I like this song. The new album is entitled “Lonely Avenue” and is a collab with a guy named Nick Hornby. A furthur look into it and apparently Ben Folds takes the words of author Nick Hornby and puts them to a bit of music. Well sounds like an odd idea, but well done as far as I’ve heard so far.

Now the real reason this song has probably caught my attention is the title and its lyrical content. I’ll just go ahead and start you out with the title, “Levi Johnston’s Blues“. Now some of you are going to have no idea what that title is about, to others the name will sound familiar, and the select few (I assume) will know exactly who the song’s about. Well I was one of those select few and right off the bat I thought, “This song is going to be stupid and political”. For those of you who aren’t aware, Levi Johnston is the father (and ex boyfriend) of former VP cadidate Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol Palin. Well to my surprise the song stayed completely away from politics, like I like it, and just was kinda a honest look at what it was probably like being Levi Johnston during the past presidential election. I applaud this. I hate political music. Now the songs subject insn’t going to interest many, myself included, but the song is so freakin’ catchy it’s ridiculous. The chorus has been stuck in my head ever since I first heard it. If the song was about anything else, I’d say it would be a hit (radio hit), but I’m not sure people will get it, let alone really want to hear about its subject matter. But like I’ve said before, if it’s good, it’s good, and this is good. I won’t be surprised if it does make it onto the radio somehow though, it’s kinda too catchy not to. Check it.

That Drum Machine Ain’t Got No Soul…

20 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

This is probably gonna be the hardest choice of song to share from a band that I’ve had yet. I’ve been listening to their stuff since their last EP came out. When I say their stuff, basically I just mean one song. Honestly, the rest of that EP was very dissapointing to me. Unlike the one song that made me such a fan, the rest of the EP is just…blahh at best.  Well I’ve kept that one song on constant rotation and prayed they’d stick to that sound on their full length. Well I’d be understating it if I said they met my hopes and dreams. Actually, it’s more like blown out of the water. I’d go so far as to say this may be the most complete album I’ve heard all year. That’s why it’s such a hard choice to pick just one song. And so I won’t (as usual).

I’ll start you off with a song off the EP (also on the full length) that kept me a fan regardless of how much I disliked the rest of their stuff, “Very Busy People“. Some of lyrics may seem to come out of left field, but once they’re pieced all together to make up the entirety of the song, they seem to make sense (for the most part). There will definetely be a time or two when you’ll say to yourself, “did he just say that“?I don’t know, just listen.

Now it’s a hard choice like I said, but I’ll give you what is probably my favorite song off the full length (if I’m forced to choose one) and that would be, “Internet Killed The Video Star“. Maybe it’s just cause its a play off of the song “Video Killed The Radio Star” or maybe it’s just cause it’s true. It’s about time someone took it to the next level and sang a song about it.

So do yourself a HUGE favor and go pick up this album. I’m not sure where it will end up on my top albums of the year, but if it’s not at the least in my top 5 I’d be VERY surprised. Check it.

We Can Change The Things We Know…

16 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Running behind, forgot to put something together, but didn’t want to leave ya’ll hangin’ (you see how I mixed a little country twang and then left off the g off hanging to make me sound gangsta’ ? That evens it out I think?). Probably to busy being giddy for the new “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” premier tonight. For your own sake, watch this show! So here’s a last second song, which honestly at the moment I’m typing this I haven’t even decided on. Right after the period in this sentence I shall scroll through my iTunes and find something random that I think you would enjoy.

Alright perfect. A band that actually came out with a pretty dope album just recently and has some older stuff I like too. So in other words you’ll get a double no whammy’s, no whammy’s, no whammy’s, stop. I’ll keep it short. The band is Faded Paper Figures. The new song is “Invent It All Again ” and the old song is “North By North“. Sort of a Death Cab/Electric President feel to it. Me likey. Check it.

Let’s Have A Toast…

15 Sep

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

In case you missed it, Kanye is back. Love him or hate him, he’s one of the best lyricists out there. And in case you missed it, the studio version of his performance at the VMA’s…”Runaway”. I’m feeling his new stuff. Back to the old Kanye, when he rapped. His last album was innovative that’s for sure, but I like this Kanye better. I’ll add one of my favorite new tracks by him, apparently a track off a new album he’s collabing with Jay-Z on, “Monster”. Check it.
