I Know ______ Loves Me…

29 Jan

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Viral. An object or pattern that is able to induce some agents to replicate it, resulting in many copies being produced and spread around. Well that’s what just happened to this guy and thank God cause it led his music to fall into my lap. So I spread it to you (if you haven’t already been blessed). You can see the video below that did it, but he’s also been pretty relevant in the slam poetry game for a while now. A couple championships here and there. I guess it’s a perfect transition from one to the other, seems logical. I haven’t decided what I like better. But you can be sure he brings his lyrical prowness to his music, so it won’t be lacking in that aspect. His first self titled album is good, but I’m jumping on the bandwagon now as I can only imagine where he’s headed from here with all eyes on him. So join me. Check it.

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Random post. But when I heard the Busta’s remix of Kanye & Jay-Z’s track “H.A.M.” I thought….now I actually like this track. Well I liked it before, but now….it’s just ridic. Busta tears this SHIZZZZ up! Check it.

Top Albums of 2K10 – #12, #11

11 Jan

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Not realizing it, I added an EP to my Top Albums….oops again. Yes that’s my excuse for the delay, I was contemplating what to do. My solution….I’m going to hit you up with my 2 favorite EPs of the year at #11 just to be fair. So check below and ye shall see. Check it.

12.

Kid Cudi – Man On The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager

Yes I chose this album over the popular choice of Kanye for my favorite hip hop album of the year. There were others that I throughly enjoyed, but as far as hip hop goes this took the cake. Also plagued with the similar fate with pre-releasing basically the entire album before it actually dropped this sits lower on my list then it may have been otherwise. But I can’t deny the amazingness of it. Although it may not seem fair I also have to give Kid Cudi some extra credit for releasing one of if not my all time favorite mixtapes this year as well with, “Cudderisback”. Heck, if that had been actual album it may have rocketed to the top of this list, pure brilliance.

11.

Lydia – Assailants

Girls – Broken Dreams Club

My two favorite EPs of the year. Combined they make up my #11 spot. That’s all I’m gonna say, besides they are both amazing, cause well I made a mistake no need to talk about it further. While I’m on the EP kick I’ll throw you a few of my other favs as well….that includes MNDR – “EPE”, Lights – “Acoustic EP”, and How To Destroy Angels – “How To Destroy Angels” and yeah thats it and I’m sure I’m missing others cause I wasn’t expecting to be an idiot.

Top Albums of 2K10 – #19(tie), #18, #17

2 Jan

First Off….if you are reading this you my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Oops. So I totally left off an album and didn’t notice till now. It so happens that album ended up at #7 on my list. So because of this I will be giving you 3 albums today so I can stay on track. So I guess we’ll just call it a tie at #19? So here will be #19 (tie), #18, and #17. Check it.

19.

MIA – MAYA

Here’s the album that snuck into my list last second.  Even jumping a couple others to end up here…apparently tied for 19 or maybe it’s actually 18? Either way it was a great album and just what I’d hoped it would be. I just had to be honest with myself I suppose. MIA isn’t going to appease everyone with this album, probably cause everyone was hoping for another “Paper Planes” type track to take over the world. If you were expecting MIA to somehow go all poppy to appease the masses then that was a stupid assumption and you probably didn’t listen to her entire first album. Not to mention that track was a bit DIFFERENT to begin with. So no surprises with the new album. Cause this was just what I’d expected and just what I’d hoped it would be. Crazy, out there, insane, banging. So it did it for me.

Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Nightmare

This one is tough. I’ve seen this album at the top of many lists this year. And I totally agree that it was great. Although it won’t even make it as my top hip hop album of the year? I think what hurt it for me was the whole idea that Kanye would release a track every couple weeks. By the time the album dropped I’d basically heard the entire thing. Sorta killed it for me. Regardless, there are some fantastic tracks on here and I’m glad to see Kanye go back to the style of hip hop that made me fall in love with his stuff in the first place. Now if I could only get him to drop a few more “Monster” esche tracks on his next effort he might find his way to my #1 spot. Just a thought. I will say that “Runaway” was easily the best hip hop track of the year. First time in a while I’ve literally put a track on repeat for over an hour. Just that good.  https://myuniversallanguage.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/lets-have-a-toast/

OK Go – Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky

This album may have etched it’s place in my Top 20 on one song alone (lie). Basically meaning it was easily one of my favorite songs of the year. That song being “This Too Shall Pass”. Lyrically amazing. Musically amazing. Video(s) amazing. Just an amazing song. To me it’s odd to think that, in my opinion, probably the 2 best videos of the year were….for the same song. First, the one everyone has seen with the whole Rube Goldberg setup and second (and my fav) the live version of the song. Both done in one take. Both amazing. But no its place here isn’t really due to one song alone. The whole album flows fantastically and there are some great songs throughout. Just when I thought OK Go would become that poppy artist who has to live off their great videos they go and release a REALLY solid album full of great songs that stand on their own, video or not.

Shake That…

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Well like I said…if a dope azz song drops while I’m busy reminiscing 2k10 with my Top Albums I’m gonna drop an extra post here and there. That’s the case here. Whenever LMFAO drops a new track I think it should be shared. This is no different. The track is, “Party Rock Anthem (feat Lauren Bennett & Goon Rock), and it’s the first single for their forthcoming album, “Sorry For Party Rocking”. Another one of my most anticipated albums of 2011. So like always. Check it.

Come Give A Kiss To Santa Claus…

17 Dec

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Let’s keep with the Christmas theme…it is right around the corner. So what’s the first thing you think of when you hear Kanye West just released a Christmas track??? Mine was, WTF mate? Then I heard the title, “Christmas In Harlem”, and the next obvious thought is….is this a play off the classic Run DMC track, “Christmas In Hollis”? I think the obvious answer is YES. What does that mean? Not much, just two nice hip hop Christmas tracks for you to listen to during your Holiday season. Check it.

I’ll Be Fine Once I Get It…

9 Dec

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

So not to be one to steal, but I heard this song on a music blog I follow a while back. I gave it a sec to marinate before I posted it myself, but I def think it’s worthy of reaching the ears of many. In all honesty, it may be the song that ended up inspiring me to create a music blog of my own. This song led me to a blog, which sort of inspired me to make one of my own. So I think it’s worthy of a post here. The band is Barbara. The song is a cover of Kid Cudi’s track, “Pursuit Of Happiness“. So maybe you’re on to the next Kid Cudi album at this point, but let’s take a sec to revisit the track that sort of made him blow up and I think this version does it justice like no other. Check it!

This Ain’t Another Love Song…

4 Nov

First Off….if you are reading this my site has moved here http://myuniversallanguage.com/

Soooo maybe I was being a little selfish in keeping his music to myself, since his new album dropped almost a month ago. But before I shared it with you all, I had to listen, and listen lots. So much so, that almost all of his tracks jumped up to the top of my most played list on my Phone. Now that I’ve got my fill, I think it’s time you get yours. I grew up listening to this guys music, idolized him, worshiped him (musically durrr), dreamt of one day making music like him, and  just plain loved the guys music. I think that’s obvious. Well after a 4 year hiatus from the solo music business he’s back and better then ever. If you know me, then you won’t be surprised to know that I’m talking about the one and only, Pigeon John. The new James Bond. Or the “Dragon Slayer“.

It may be a bold statement, but I must say that it’s my belief that Pigeon paved the way for the likes of Kid Cudi, Wale, B.o.B., Lupe Fiasco, and many other hip hop artists of similar style.  That underground, laid back, somewhat singy hip hop sound that you’re used to hearing from those guys, he’s been doing since the 90’s. A lot of underground hip hop heads from the Los Angeles area may know his name, but outside that, he’s quite unknown and that’s a shame. So let’s change that, he deserves it. The album is def in store for a full review come time for me to release my top 20 albums of the year, hint hint. But for now enjoy a couple tracks. A couple because I think you need to hear both sides of what this guy is capable of. That upbeat, in your face style, and that chill singy “beautiful” style. Check it.
